A file hash is a fixed-length value calculated from a file's contents. Even a tiny change produces a different hash, making hashes useful for verifying download integrity.

SHA-256: The most widely recommended hash for integrity checks today.
SHA-1: It may still appear with older releases or repositories.
MD5: Mainly used for quick checksum comparisons rather than security.

Q. Which hash should I check?

Select the same algorithm used on the official download page. SHA-256 is usually the best place to start.

Q. Does a different hash always mean the file is dangerous?

Identical files should have identical hashes. If the values differ, the download may be corrupted or may be a different file, so download it again from the official source.

Q. Can it handle large files?

It depends on your browser's available memory and device performance. Very large files may take longer to hash.

Q. Is MD5 secure?

MD5 is not recommended for security verification. Use SHA-256 when security matters, rather than for a simple checksum comparison.

Verify downloads: Compare the calculated result with the SHA-256 value published on the official website.

Check for tampering: Compare hashes before and after distribution to quickly detect whether a file changed in transit.

Select the downloaded file and calculate SHA-256, then paste the SHA256 checksum published on the official download page into the comparison field. A match means the byte contents are the same as the file represented by that checksum. A checksum match alone does not prove that the source is trustworthy or that the file is free of malware.

When verifying the integrity of your distribution files, you should compare them against the official values and, if available, preferring the more crash-resistant SHA-256. Use MD5 for older checksum compatibility purposes.
